November 30, 2017 Amy 20 Comments

Can you just smell warm chocolate baking?

That is the smell of goodness right there. Nothing will get my family running faster to the oven than the smell of brownies.

What about being able to give the gift of chocolate to create memories at the same time?

Ingredients for Homemade Brownie Mix

1 Cup Flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup packed Brown Sugar

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup cocoa powder (I used dark chocolate)

1 cup nuts or chocolate chips (you can use half chocolate and half nuts)

1 glass quart jar with lid to store the ingredients

Wet Ingredients

3 eggs

1 cup melted butter (Learn how to make homemade butter)

1 teaspoon vanilla (Learn how to make homemade vanilla)

Directions how to make Homemade Brownie Mix

Adding Flour to Homemade brownie mix

The jar should be packed in this order to get the distinct layers. First mix the flour and baking powder together and layer in the bottom. I use this from my canning set so it doesn’t make a mess when loading these jars. Use a spoon to pack the flour in the bottom of the jar.

Adding brown sugar to homemade brownie mix

Next add the brown sugar. Pack this down really well on top of the flour.

Adding sugar to homemade brownie mix

Then mix the sugar and the salt. Add them on top of the brown sugar.

Adding chocolate to homemade brownie mix

Lastly add the cocoa powder. It is best to add this last, since it is so fine it will end up coating the jar and you will lose your pretty sand art effect.

Then on top add the 1 cup chocolate chips for a fudgy brownie or nuts for a crunchy brownie.

To make the brownies add :

1 teaspoon homemade vanilla extract

3 eggs

1 Cup melted Butter or coconut oil

Pour mixture into a well greased 9 X 13 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 – 30 minutes for the best brownies ever.

To make this the perfect gift, I have provided a free gift tag printable with the directions on the back for you to print. When you print the gift tags, print double sided on quality card stock. You can print these and use a Cricut to cut out the tags for a crisp clean cut or simply cut them out with a pair of scisors.

Since these are not sealed, this mix is meant to be used fairly quickly. I would say about a month.
