I want to share my love of filled mason jars with others. This year I am making handmade gifts to give. Homemade oatmeal cookies in a jar is a wonderful gift to share. I love the thought of a mom and kids making homemade cookies and knowing I helped create this wonderful memory with my gift. I still remember making cookies with my mom and the best part is getting to lick the bowl and spoon, wouldn’t you agree?

The Best Homemade Oatmeal Cookie Mix Recipe
Ingredients for Homemade Oatmeal Cookie Mix Recipe
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup white sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
1 Quart size mason jar (affiliate link)
Directions How to Make Homemade Oatmeal Cookies in a jar
1. Stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Using funnel pour the flour mix into 1 quart mason jar just like this one. Press down flour mixture until it won’t pack any more. Seriously work on pressing it down. If needed, clean insides of jar with folded paper towel to make the layers visible.
2. Next press down oats tightly into the jar.
3. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and brown sugar together. Spoon in brown sugar and cinnamon mixture pressing layer firmly in the jar.
4. Then pour white sugar and press firmly into the jar. At this point I stop to admire the layers. They begin to look like the layers in the Earth. I love this part.
5. Next add chocolate chips to the jar.
6. Add decorations with a cupcake liner for the top and washi tape around the ring. Then print instructions to attach to the jar.
Instructions for Homemade Oatmeal Cookies Mix Recipe in a Jar
Preheat oven to 350° F. Open up the jar and break up the mix so no lumps are remaining.
Add an extra cup of nuts if you wish to the mix.
In a mixer, beat together 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tablespoon milk. Add Cookie Mix and stir well.
Drop tablespoon sized rounds of dough onto greased baking sheet.
Bake about 9 – 11 minutes or until edges turn golden brown. Enjoy nice warm cookies.

Are oatmeal cookies a healthy snack?

In the jar the cookies will last about a month before you need to bake them. Then after they are baked the will last 2 weeks in a sealed air tight container. But they are best straight out of the oven.

This question gets asked a lot. One of the secrets to soft cookies is using brown sugar. The brown sugar makes the cookies gives you a moister cookie than a regular sugar cookie. Using an extra egg yolk will also give you a little more chewiness to your yummy cookies.
