1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup Epsom salts
essential oil (see uses below)

Soap Dye Coloring or mica powder (optional I did not use any)

Additional Materials Used

Directions on how to make Homemade Bath Bombs Recipe

1. Gather all the ingredients. Place all the dry ingredients in a bowl with the coconut oil. Mix all together thoroughly.

2. Add essential oil. I make plain bath bombs then add essential oils right before I am going to use them. But if you are giving as a gift, put oils in this step. Add coloring to desired color. Mix with the a whisk for a unified color. These smell wonderful with just the coconut fragrance from oil.

Spraying water for homemade bath bombs

3. Spray about 10 sprays of water and mix. Keep doing this until it is the mixture starts to hold its shape. Add water gradually or a fizzy mess will occur. If you don’t have a spray bottle use a small dropper to add the water a little at a time.

Stick together homemade bath bombs

4. Once this mixture is a little sticky place larger amounts in the molds and squeeze together until snapped close. I found this clear ornament to make pretty round bath bombs. There are tons of molds to choose from. Tap a spoon all around the mold to loosen it. Boom you have a round bath bomb.

Tip: If you don’t have a fancy mold, just us a lined muffin tin. Wait until they are dry before you pop them out of the muffin tin.

5. This is the hardest part, wait. Yes wait up to 24-48 hours before you move them. It really depends on how dry it is to how fast they will dry. Then wrap up to give as gifts or place by your tub and add your essential oils when it is time for a bath. Enjoy!

Best Essential Oils for Bath Bombs

I want to share with you the best oils to enjoy a therapeutic bath. These are the oils I highly recommend to add to your bath bomb recipe.

Peppermint essential oil is a great pick me up for a little added energy. After a long day and there are still another function to attend, peppermint bath bombs will help give a lift to enjoy what comes next.

Lavender essential oil is best for after a long hard day and need to just relax. I can think of many reasons every one needs a little lavender in their homemade bath bombs. Usually they are small little ones who call you mom.

PanAway essential oil is a special blend to aid sore and achy muscles after a workout. Drop about 5-10 drops on the homemade bath bomb after a hard workout or long run to ease sore muscle pain.

Citrus Fresh essential oil blend will help provide metal focus. Use before a big meeting or getting stated on a large project to focus energy to get the job done.

These make the perfect gift for any holiday or gift idea. I just love mine and I can’t wait to give these as gifts this year. I know a few special people who are going  to get completely pampered. Here are a few other great beauty products to make. Give an entire gift basket made with these goodies!

Whenever you come with 1/2 block of a LUSH store, OMGosh smells so good. I also make bath bombs, but using essential oils, most time it smells medicinny, I love the perfume/fragrance of LUSH, what or how do I get that? Tnx

Thanks for your question Wendy. It is hard to say, since I am not sure exactly what fragrances they use. You can always try adding more to create a stronger scent.

I’m going to definitely give this a go! I’ve been using the bath bombs from Kmart as the Lush ones are incredibly expensive in Australia. At the rate I go through them, making them at home may be the key! I love that I can then customise the scent to something I want. Thanks heaps for this recipe!
