Homemade Whipped Body Butter Recipe for Soft Skin

February 22, 2016 Amy 14 Comments

Do you just love when your skin is so soft and smooth?

Me too! This homemade whipped body butter recipe not makes your skin feel soft and luxurious, but is very beneficial for your skin too.

Extra vitamin E is good for the skin. Vitamin E is an important vitamin required for the proper function of many organs in the body. It is also an antioxidant. This means it helps to slow down processes that damage cells. *

Ingredients for Homemade Whipped Body Butter Recipe

1/4 Cup of Shea Butterย (This is the one I love)
1/4 Cup of solid Coconut Oilย (This is what I recommend)
1 Tablespoon of Vitamin E Oilย ย (This is what I recommend)
20-30 drop of Essential Oils of your choice (This is what I recommend, 100% Therapeutic Grade)
3 4oz Mason jars to store the body butter (This is what I recommend, affiliate link)

I recommend this mixer like this one.

Directions how to make Homemade Whipped Body Butter Recipe

1. Place a wide mouth 8oz glass canning jar in a pot of water. The water should be about half way up on the jar. Heat the water on med high heat until a small boil.

2. Add the Shea butter first then add the coconut oil. Allow the them to hangout and melt together. Stir occasionally ย to help the melting process.

3. Once the Shea butter and the coconut oil are melted remove from heat. Then add the vitamin E oil.

4. Pour in a mixing bowl and allow to cool. This is the hardest part, since it takes about an hour to cool. You can place in the fridge or freezer and keep checking on it. It is best when it is at the point of starting to solidify again. (look at the picture above) This is the best point to add the essential oils. Add what you like. I have several versions of body butter I like to make. One is for minor muscles aches after a work out. A relaxing whipped body butter with lavender before bedtime and an invigorating one for the morning. Find more uses for oils in this therapeutic bath salts recipe.

5. With the whisking attachment to your mixer, whisk the mixture until light an fluffy, just like whipped cream. It takes about 5 minutes on med high to high. It will even look just like whipped cream, too. You could probably eat it, but I would not recommend it.

I just made this. It feels wonderful. It’s greasy but soaks in well.
My problem is this recipe says it makes 3 4oz jars of body butter/lotion.
    It only made 4 ozs.

I see you corrected your issue with the post after. It is a little greasy, but perfect for dry winter skin! This is all about timing and works better when it is colder outside.

Hope moderator can cancel my above post. It was obviously my fault that my first batch didn’t give out amount it should.
I did 1 cup coconut oil, 1 cup shea butter and 4 Tab. of Vit E.
Wow, did it whip up good. Made nine 4 oz containers. Wonderful!

This is a hard one to make, since it really needs to be whipped at the exact right time. I have done the same by whipping it too soon and it just turns into a hard lotion. Patience is key with this recipe, but it is oh so nice when it comes out right. I suggest making it on a cold day, so it will cool faster.

I can’t wait for you to whip it up too. I would say it would keep well for at least a month.

I keep all my skincare products in a mini fridge & they last so much longer & stay fresher longer.

I just made this for the first time. I got 2 1/2 containers. I think the consistency is good, seems to rub right in my skin. My question is it is summer and I live near Sacramento- so itโ€™s hot! Should I keep the extra in the refrigerator? Even our coconut butter in the cupboards melt!

Fantastic. I am so glad you tried this recipe. Yes, I would recommend keeping it in the fridge or a cooler spot until it starts getting cooler.
