How to Make Clean Eating Chocolate Candy

February 11, 2016 Amy 2 Comments

How can you have a clean eating chocolate candy?

It is easier than you think.

I came up with this recipe on my own. This creates a rich chocolate indulgence without any of the guilt. Very few ingredients are needed and you probably already have these on hand if you have been clean eating for a while. This dessert is decadent enough to give to someone special or keep them for yourself and enjoy. Don’t worry I won’t tell!

Ingredients for Clean Eating Chocolate Candy

1 Cup Dates or Prunes or combination of both
2 Tablespoons Water
2 Tablespoons Coconut oil (This is what I use, affiliate link)
1/4 cup 100% Cacao (this is what I use, affiliate link) (plus more for dusting)

Directions how to make Clean Eating Chocolate Candy

1. Add all the ingredients into a food processor. Start by pulsing the mixture about five times. Until it starts to break up.

2. Stop and scrape down the sides. Then pulse on high until a dark smooth ooey gooey mixture forms. If it is not becoming gooey, then add a teaspoon more water.

3. Coat the heart shaped molds (these are the ones I used, affiliate link)  with some olive oil or coconut oil. Be sure to coat the entire mold.

4. The mixture is very sticky, so I suggest coat your fingers with coconut oil or olive oil to be able to work with it. Start placing the mixture in the pre-oiled molds. If you don’t want to use the heart shaped molds (affiliate link), just press the mixture into a small bread pan. No need to get fancy. Cut after it has set for a couple hours in the fridge.

5. Place in the freezer and let set for at least 4 hours or more. This makes it a little easier to pop out of the molds. Warm up the bottom of the mold and use a butter knife to pry them out. A little re-shaping may be needed. Then Dust them lightly with some 100% cacao powder or I used my homemade cocoa mix. They can be served at room temperature or refrigerated. These do not have any ingredients that need to be refrigerated, so these can set out on the counter.

I like to use prunes instead of dates or a half and half. Prunes are less expensive and have a great flavor for many natural dessert dishes. The prunes add a deep rich dark color chocolate fudgey color to make these simply heavenly. I bet dried figs would even be wonderful with this candy, too. I made these for my sweeties for Valentine’s Day.
