Best Beginner Cooking Tips You Need to Know

Being in the kitchen can be intimidating and down right scary for new cooks.

Learning how to cook doesn’t have to be scary. Here are some beginner cooking tips to help you get started cooking.

How Can I Teach Myself How to Cook?

I always say start with a good cookbook. There are tons of cookbooks out there. It can seriously be overwhelming where to start. I recommend the Joy of Cooking hardback cookbook for an excellent 1st cookbook for anyone. Not only does it have great recipes, it also contains lots of cooking tips and how to’s for the beginner cook or baker. I still use mine today.

The next best resource is YouTube. There are plenty of cooking tips for beginners. You can simply watch how someone else prepares and cooks food to get the best advice. Last you can watch a cooking channel. I learned the most by watching Rachel Ray. Everything cooks at different times and learning when to start potatoes, pasta, and cook meat, so all of these are ready at the same time. This was my biggest learning curve. Once you learn how long it takes to cook each item, you can plan your meal accordingly.

Useful Cookbook Tips For Beginner Cooks

One tip about using cookbooks, get a good cookbook and carefully follow the recipes. Take time to  measure out each ingredient, and following the recipe exactly as written. Oh, and read through the entire recipe before you start. This is important, so you know exactly what to do.

Use a cookbook the first time you make a recipe then make adjustments next time. This is one of my favorite nuggets of advice. This is where your flare on a dish can improve the overall taste to make it just the way you love it. Don’t try to always be perfect with every recipe, let a dish inspire you to create a dish you will love. Never be afraid to experiment, or ask for advice.

Organized pantry for beginner Cooks

It is important to keep a well stocked pantry and fridge to allow you the flexibility to make most recipes at any time. See how to create an organized pantry and learn what foods to stock to have the best success in cooking. Having the most common ingredients on hand allows you to make most recipes. Also having an organized refrigerator and freezer will help you make most recipes.

Spices and more

Learn the benefits from the food and spices you use in your recipes. Some have great qualities you will want to add to your food depending on your symptoms. Did you know onions and garlic fight both bacteria and viruses naturally? So whenever you are under the weather add more of these to your food. Turmeric is great for any inflammation in your body. I add this to my taco seasoning and it enhances the flavor.
