Top 10 Post of 2012: Best of Pounds4Pennies

December 29, 2012 Amy Leave a Comment

I have been taking some time off to spend with family and celebrate the holidays to end 2012. We have finally made it back home after many hours traveling in the car with the kids. With another 9 hour car trip with three kids, we have survived. It seems like the trip there is so much worse than the ride home. The way home was easier this time, since Little Face sleeps most of the way. This is way less stress for everyone in the vehicle. We had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to enjoying a great new year in 2013.

I have been working really hard on my new How to Make it Yourself series to start out the New Year. Where you will learn how to make a lot of the things you buy without all the preservatives like homemade yogurt, cream cheese and bread. I am looking forward to 2013 and I hope you are too! I have a lot in store for all of you for the coming year and would love to hear if there is something you would like for me to post about.

9. Healthy Slushies With Real Fruit- I am always looking for ways to give my kids treats with out extra sugar, food dyes and all natural. Here is the best way to give your kids a great treat during the summer without a Slushie Magic and using real fruit and fruit juice.

8. Couponing 101 – Here is how to save money with coupons. This was the original intention for this site. I am still into saving, but now I am saving buying more organic food items. Trust me there are great organic coupons out there too!

7. Best Baked Oatmeal Bars –  This recipe is really versatile and can be adapted easily to those with allergies including: nut, gluten and dairy. Each bar is like having a bowl of oatmeal. My husband loves to take these on the days he goes to the gym, since he can just grab one and go. The kids like to eat these with a large glass of milk to provide a great balanced quick meal.

Everyone loved how this looked just like a big bowl of popcorn. I still can’t believe I made this by myself. It turned out so amazing.
5. Homemade Lara Bars – These Coconut Lime Homemade Lara Bars are made the frugal way with prunes instead of expensive dates. My husband and I think these taste amazing. These can be made for those with allergies too to be nut free, gluten free and dairy free. This is a great snack or treat for the kids.
