Directions on how to make natural face moisturizer
Today I will be sharing enough for one batch of homemade face moisturizer. Please feel free to double the amounts for gifts to friends. Keep in mind these will go rancid after about a month, so I like to make enough for an entire month at a time. Or you can store them in a refrigerator to keep for longer periods of time. This is what I do.
I would test each oil on a small part of the back of your hand first to make sure you do not have any allergies to any of the oils. If you do have an allergy, do not use that oil in this recipe.
Daily Natural Face Moisturizer
1 Tablespoon Coconut oil (acts as a moisturizer, multivitamin, multi-nutrient and antioxidant)
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Butter (Stabilizer, so it wont liquefy over 75 degrees)
1/4 Teaspoon Vitamin E oil (prevents premature aging and promotes healing)
10 drops Frankincense Essential oil (promotes healthy cell regeneration)
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (know for anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties)

How to make homemade face moisturizer recipes for Day Time
1. For those of us without a double boiler, use a pan and fill with 1 inch of water in the bottom. Place on the stove and turn the burner on low. Inside the pot place a Pyrex Measuring cup or a canning jar in the middle.
2. Measure all your ingredients into the jar. Try not to let any spill or drop any into the water. That is why I like the glass measuring cup, since it has a wider mouth to get all the ingredients into.
3. Melt all the ingredients together and use a spoon stir. Once it is all melted together poor into a container or several small containers to share with your friends. Allow to cool. To speed up the process place in fridge to cool quickly.
To apply rub this natural face moisturizer on your face, neck and even chest. Plan on doing this at least 10 minutes before you apply any make up to allow the oils to soak into the skin. This can also be used on your hands or any where else. I have been using this for about two weeks, and my skin is so soft. I wanted to test it before I shared this natural face moisturizer recipe with you. I swear my skin feels like baby skin. I can’t seem to stop touching my face. I wish I would have made this years ago.
Night Time Natural Face Moisturizer
1 Tablespoon Coconut oil (acts as a moisturizer, multivitamin, multi-nutrient and antioxidant)
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Butter (Stabilizer, so it wont liquefy over 75 degrees can be made without)
1/4 Teaspoon Vitamin E oil (prevents premature aging and promotes healing)
10 drops Frankincense Essential oil (promotes healthy cell regeneration)
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (know for anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties)
10 drops Lemon Essential Oil (helps rejuvenate sagging or tired-looking skin)
How to make homemade face moisturizer recipes for Night Time
1. Follow the directions above to melt all the ingredients together and place in containers. Lemon is recommended for the night facial moisturizer, since you should not apply it during the day. Avoid applying lemon oil to skin that will be exposed to sunlight. Let the magic of the natural face moisturizer work overnight.
I would recommend making sure your face is clean and use a natural face toner before applying any of the homemade face moisturizer recipes above. All of the Essential Oils come in the starter kit with Young Living. You can make these wonderful natural face moisturizers for healthy, younger looking skin. I am amazed at how well this stuff really works.

Candy says
Can you substituted shea butter for cocoa butter?
Amy says
I am sure you could. I have never done it with shea butter before. Let me know how it turns out.
Evelyn says
What would be a good eye cream?
Amy says
I put this around my eyes and my entire face every day. I hope this helps answer your question.
Barbara says
The ingredient list doesn’t mention vitamin E oil but your directions to mix it has that oil. I’m confused about if I use it or not.
Amy says
You know you are right! I have added Vitamin E oil to the list. I must have just left it off. Thanks for pointing that out, Barbara!
Debby says
Happy New Year! What type of storage jar do you use? Plastic or glass?
Amy says
These are plastic. If I find any glass containers, I would love to use those!
Jenny says
I have all ingredients except frankincense. Is there a substitute?
Amy says
You don’t need frankincese, but it is a nice oil for the face. You can just omit it and it will still work. I use this oil every day on my face.
Kitti says
I just saw face wash made with castile soap, lavender, and frankincense. Can I use the face wash and then moisturize like most skin care programs?
Amy says
I think you would be fine. However, you may want to test a little area first just to make sure.
KemalA says
Hi, I love your recipe and planning to try it. But I see some recipe need to whip until more than 3 minutes other just melt all the ingredients and mix. Which one is better? Or maybe there’s some delicate treatment for each oil.
Amy says
It depends on the types of oils or butters or wax used to make the products. I do have a whipped body butter that I really love. Shea butter applies easier when it is whipped. But this one melts easily using just the heat from your finger. There is no need to whip. I hope I answered your question.
Pam says
I don’t care for the scent of lavender, but I do like the properties. Do the other oils in this mask that smell? Or is there a good substitute for it?
Amy says
The other oils in this do smell, but they compliment each other. I would say try a small amount first to see if you like the smell. I am not a big flowers smell, but I think the frankincense balances it well.
Sarah says
What causes it to go rancid so quickly?
Amy says
It is a natural substance with no preservatives. It would probably last longer in the Winter. Any natural oil or nuts left out over a long period of time will go rancid.
Amy says
I would love to try this but I’m one of those few weirdos that CANNOT stand the smell of lavender. When my children were younger, I tried using the baby lotion with lavender and had to quit because it smelled so badly to me. Is there another oil that could be substituted?
Amy says
I would say try a little with the Frankincense. I think the two balance each other out. If not you can just leave out the lavender.
Jen Eckers says
I use essential oils quite regularly and the experts on oils say that if you don’t like the smell it’s because you’re missing that in your body and you need it
Brandie says
Hello, I made this this past weekend but it stayed in a liquid form. Is that suppose to happen? I followed the recipe, but mine does not look like your picture.
Amy says
It depends on how warm your house is. Since it didn’t set, place it in the fridge.
Roxanne says
I am confused, I noticed in the night moisturizer, you say “Lemon is recommended for the night facial moisturizer, since you should not apply it during the day. But Lemon is part of the day recipe, though not listed in the directions/instructions.
Amy says
Yes lemon is only for the night time moisturizer. Lemon is not in the Day recipe. The ingredients listed above are for both recipes. Please make the day recipe according to the directions.
Deb says
Hi, I would like to add this homemade moisturizer with my homemade face powder to create a tinted moisturizer, would this work?
Stephanie says
What can you use instead of cocoa butter? Do you need to have it or can you use more coconut oil?
Amy says
If you don’t want to use cocoa butter, try a small amount of shea butter or beeswax. The cocoa butter is mainly to provide a little stability if you use it during the summer months. Coconut oil melts at a much lower temp than cocoa butter. Cocoa butter and shea butter melt under 100. Beeswax melts at a much high temp, but too much and you won’t be able to use the cream easily. I hope this chemistry lesson helps.
christy says
I just made the daily moisturizer and It turned out much more yellow looking than yours. Is there a reason for that that you know of? I am thinking that it will still be very good for my skin but just wondering what you might think.
Thanks
Amy says
It could depend on your ingredients. Sometimes the essential oils may have a darker yellow color.
Nicola says
Hi. My face gets oilier and oilier as the day goes by. Would this recipe be good for my skin type too?
Amy says
I would recommend to use homemade toner first on your face. You can find it here TONER. I would suggest making a small batch at first and test part of your face before to see how your skin reacts to this moisturizer. Then you can determine if this would work best for you.
I have dry skin so this just soaks right into my face.
Mk says
Hi…it should be noted that coconut oil can cause breakouts on some skin, especially the face.
Amy says
Thanks for your advice. I have indicated in my post that you should try a small test area before you begin using the face moisturizer.
Kate says
Hi, the recipes are all good. I have only one question. So, what’s the
cream expiration date? Maybe I have just lost it while I was reading it. Thank’s a lot!
Amy says
Thanks for your question Kate. It would last about a month. I make a batch, then I divide them up into small containers. Then I place them in the fridge to keep their shelf life longer like 6 months. Check the expiration date on your coconut oil.
Beulah McField says
Good afternoon, I cannot use coconut oil on my skin. Can I substitute another carrier oil.
Amy says
Thanks for asking Beulah. I would try olive oil instead.
Susan says
Is this supposed to be greasy? Would like for it to be creamier. What do you suggest?
Amy says
Thanks for your question Susan. I don’t find it greasy at all. After a minute it soaks right into my skin for smooth soft skin. I do not have any other suggestions at this time.
Tamara says
Hi Amy, I can’t wait to make this. I don’t have a problem with it staying liquid. Is it a problem if it does? I currently mix equal parts Coconut oil and Jojoba oil as a moisturizer. I read somewhere that if you use Jojoba oil daily, that it has natural sunscreen properties. Can I add this to your recipe?
If so, how much would you recommend?
Amy says
Great Question. I have never used Johoba oil in this recipe. I would suggest making this recipe as is and possibly using jajoba oil after you apply this moisturizer. As always test a small amount to see how your skin reacts.
If you want to make it with Jojoba try adding a teaspoon to the recipe and see how that turns out.
Tammy says
I do not have a Frankincense only oil. I have a Frankincense/Myrrh combo oil. Is this okay?
Thanks for all the time you put into these questions we have.
Amy says
Great Question. Yes you can try this. I would of course test a small amount first to see how your skin feels.
