Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sliders
I went to my nearest HEB store to stock up on great tailgating party supplies. I knew I wanted to make pulled pork sliders. Nothing pairs better with pork sliders than King’s Hawaiian rolls. These can be found in the bread and bakery area inside HEB. The sweet buns are so soft and sweet they practically melt in your mouth.
Next, I needed some sauce for the sliders. What better sauce to compliment sliders than King’s Hawaiian BBQ sauce original with its sweet pineapple taste.
When I bring home King’s Hawaiian rolls, I have to hide them. My kids faces just light up whenever they see those bright orange bags coming in our home. I don’t hear the end of, “when are we having those for dinner.” So I have to use them fast.
Ingredients for Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sliders
1 Pork Roast (I like the shoulder roast)
1 Medium sized onion chopped
1 Container of Feta Cheese
1 Jar King’s Hawaiian BBQ Sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions How to Make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sliders
First sear the roast on all sides before placing in the slow cooker. Sear for about 5-7 minutes on each side. Most people don’t do this step. This is my secret to getting pork roast to taste like it has been on the grill. Searing caramelizes the fat on the outside for an additional level of flavor. Searing also keeps all the juices inside for moist and delicious pulled pork.
Next add about half the onions to the bottom of the slow cooker and about 1/4 bottle of King’s Hawaiian BBQ sauce on top. Enough to cover the bottom.
Salt and pepper the entire roast to your taste. Place the seared roast on top of the onions. Then put the remaining half onion on top. Pour your favorite King’s Hawaiian BBQ Sauce over the top. Be sure to coat all the sides with the sauce. I used the Original Sweet Pineapple for its bold BBQ flavor.
Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until the roast is done.
Once the roast is done carefully remove from the slow cooker and let rest for 10 min. After 10 minutes, take two forks and shred. It should be so easy to shred, since it has been cooking all day. You can either dump all the pork back in the slow cooker and mix it up, or just add about a cup at a time of the liquid from the slow cooker to the pork and mix. I don’t like mine too juicy so I add the juice a little at a time until it is covered nicely. Then I remove the rest of the juice and place the pulled pork back in the slow cooker to keep warm to transport to the tailgating party
A quick and easy tip for making the best sliders is to take all the King’s Hawaiian buns out of the box. Then turn them all on the side and using a bread knife cut them in half all at the same time. Grill the entire top and bottoms with a little butter to make them crispy. Anything is better with butter. After the buns cool, you can place them back in the box for easy transporting to the tailgating event.
Build your sliders by grabbing a couple of buttered buns. Then pile on the meat and top will a little feta cheese. Close with the top of the bun and place a pickle on top.
