Packing School Lunches for Kids

April 17, 2014 Amy 3 Comments

Thank you to Fruit Shoot for sponsoring today’s post and encouraging me to share creative ways how packing school lunches for kids can be nutritious and fun for kids! All thoughts, opinions and pictures are my own.

Sometimes packing school lunches for kids can get a little boring if you keep packing the same things everyday. I try to make school lunch fun by packing lunches for kids that is a little different. The food may be the same in the lunch box, but once you cut it up in to a different shape that makes lunch fun. Try thinking outside of the lunchbox. Today I am going to share with you some examples of lunches I pack for my four year old. He goes to a Mother’s Day Out program three days a week and has to bring his lunch every day.

I like to make sure I provide a protein, carbohydrate and veggie or fruit along with a drink like Fruit Shoot for a well rounded lunch. This ensures he has the energy to make it through the day. He needs it, since he is a very active little boy. Here is an example of the dinosaur lunch I packed. There are brontosaurus sandwiches (grilled cheese, his favorite), dinosaur eggs (black olives), a giant boulder (apple) and lava juice (Fruit Shoot Strawberry & Raspberry flavor). I like to pack him Fruit Shoot to provide him with more hydration during the day.

Another option is to have a snacky lunch. Where it really doesn’t feel like lunch at all, but has similar nutritional value. Instead of just cutting the lunch meat and cheese, I layer them on a couple of toothpicks. The contrast between the colors is a fun pattern for kids. This way it is super easy for him to take off and make meat, cheese and cracker snacks. We made our own pastrami last year and Little Face just loves it with cheese and crackers in his lunchbox. Then I add a few carrots, cranberries and purple Fruit Shoot for a more colorful lunch.

Packing school lunches for kids doesn’t have to be difficult to be fun. These simple lunches took just a few minutes to throw together and I am sure you can do it too. I am still providing a fun and healthy lunch for school. I am just throwing in a little imagination to think outside the lunchbox to make lunch a little more fun.

What is Fruit Shoot

One of the things I love about Fruit Shoot is the new no-spill cap, perfect for children of all ages. This makes packing school lunches for kids easy. Fruit Shoot contains real fruit juice and no fructose corn syrup, making it a better option than some other flavored drinks. These vibrant fun colored bottles come in tasty flavors of Orange, Apple, Berry Burst, and Strawberry/Raspberry. Visit the Fruit Shoot Facebook page for more information. Fruit Shoot can be found at most local retail stores. Right now with purchase of Fruit Shoot, there is the option for a free download of an Angry Birds game on the label.

Do you have any fun ideas when you are packing your kids lunches?

I love the dinosaur lunch. The ‘lava’ juice is such a great addition to that theme 🙂 I think we’d have to substitute grapes for the olives (olives are such an acquired taste aren’t they?!) but the shape would be the same so it would be all good!
