Hunger Games – At first I was leery about them reading something with such intense subject matter. I talked to them about it to make sure they understood. Mainly what they told me is they know it is not real, but really enjoyed the story and they can’t wait to see the movie, too!
Unwanteds This is a brand new series by Lisa Mann. She has only written two novels in this series and plans on writing 8! These are great gifts for tweens, since you can purchase the next one in the series each year.
Harry Potter Series. Great series to keep kids entertained and enjoying reading.
Wonderstruck is (1/2 pictures & 1/2 words). Two stories are going on at the same time during this awesome book. One is drawn and one is a written story. Although it is really thick there are only a few hundred written pages. My kids really enjoyed this book.
Escape under the forever sky – About a young girl who was kidnapped and the story of how she escaped. Both my Daughter & Step son loved this one. They could not put it down. If you get one book, this one will be a hit.
Little House on the Prairie Series – My daughter really enjoys watching the TV show. I like that these books are about a girl her age at a different period in time. Allowing her to see someone else’s struggles in a different way.
The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe Series – I have read these awesome books. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe are my favorite in the series.
Hamster Magic – I don’t know much about this one, they have just started reading it. But they both love it so far.

My son reads like crazy! I have a hard time keeping him in books that he likes. I hadn’t heard of the Unwanted, I’ll totally have to check that one out. Thanks for all the ideas.:)
My daughter loved the first book. They read it at school in a book club. She was lucky enough to have the author sign her book. Very exciting.
