How to Make It Homemade

January 1, 2013 Amy 11 Comments

I am so excited to start this new series where I show you how to make a lot of the products you normally buy all by yourself without all those added preservatives and extra ingredients. I been doing a lot of research to bring you this awesome natural series. I want to show you how to get back the basics with food, cleaners and beauty care. I wanted to know if I could make things like yogurt, butter and my own beauty products myself. What is involved in each of these processes and could I make these myself?

The best part of making these items yourself is most of the items do not require anything additional to purchase. If you have ever seen Alton Brown you know he doesn’t like to have a kitchen device for just one purpose. It is considered wasteful. My slow cooker and I have gotten even closer through this journey. I have turned it into a yogurt maker, my mixer turned it into a butter churner and my food processor into a cracker machine. It was kind of like doing fun science experiments in my kitchen. Starting out with the basic ingredients and turning them into something natural and healthy.

I am not a doomsday prepper or anything like that, but I did want to know how to make these items if I didn’t have the means to buy them. I also wanted to provide better natural food for my family, while still staying on a strict grocery budget. I have included buying more organic products in my store visits and processing these items myself. I know what is going in my food, since I am using basic ingredients and making them myself. I hope you enjoy this journey with me and learn how to make all of these wonderful things yourself.

That sounds great! I think it’s a real shame that we have to clarify that we aren’t weirdos just because we like to be prepared. It’s a smart thing to be ready since we can’t know what the future will hold. And very few people in real life are like the strange people they show on TV (otherwise they wouldn’t have good ratings, I guess). Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to this series. 🙂

I can’t wait to see lots of your posts. I am trying to do the same thing but I haven’t thought about making butter. I don’t know if you read the book, “Make the Bread, Buy the Butter” but it was a good book and follows the same ideals. I hope you like some of the recipes that she shares 🙂
