When we are traveling with kids during the holidays, we try to follow the same strategy we use when we vacation on a budget. If you are not used to traveling with kids, this could be a challenge. We travel so much with our kids I have it down to a science. The best way to pack snacks and when to take breaks. Keep things simple when traveling with kids. Try to keep as much of a similar routine and to your normal schedule.
Traveling with Kids: Packing Gifts
One frustrating thing when traveling with kids during the Christmas holidays, is traveling with presents. How do you keep up to make sure you have all the correct presents at the right house? My best kept secret is, I wrap all of one families gifts in the same wrapping paper. When we are unpacking the car, it is easy to spot which gifts need to come out and which ones need to stay in the vehicle. Some laugh at the how I organize the presents. I rarely miss a gift delivery, since I know what presents go where. This makes it a breeze when passing out gifts at gift time too! I even do this with my kids presents, so we can make sure no one accidentally opens someone else’s gift, since we don’t need any melt downs because someone open someone else’s presents on Christmas day. Because some presents you just want to see their face when they open a gift they have always wanted.
Traveling with Kids: Home for Christmas
One of my rules for Christmas, is to make every effort to be at my home for Christmas. This allows us to have our own family traditions and create memories for our own family. However, due to time, we may not always get back to our house for Christmas. Spending time with family is precious and I can’t think of a better way to spend Christmas no matter in my home or in someone else’s. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

We have not tried travelling for Christmas holiday, but just like you I use similar wrappers for the present and just hand it to the kids during Christmas day. Christmas are always spent at home so that kids will have good memories of our house once they get older.
