How to Make Homemade Wrapping Paper in Minutes

December 3, 2016 Amy 1 Comment

Do you ever have that moment when you think “I don’t have any wrapping paper!” No need to panic. Just make some homemade wrapping paper quickly. It is so easy. I hate spending money on something that is just going to be thrown away or only used once. But I think unwrapping a gift is so much more fun. Way better than removing some tissue paper from a bag.

Making your own homemade wrapping paper and personalizing it is a great way to make the gift even more special. I love using someone’s favorite colors or adding the party theme to the gift wrap. It doesn’t take long and will save you tons of money. First go to the dollar store or in the business area and purchase brown packing paper or white packing paper. You will use this for the homemade wrapping paper. This is way cheaper than regular wrapping paper.

How to Make Homemade Wrapping Paper

Painting homemade wrapping paper

1. There are two easy ways I thought of to make homemade wrapping paper. One is decorate the plain paper first. Then the other way is to wrap the present then decorate the paper. If using paint, I recommend painting the paper first. This will make sure paint does not get on the gift.

2. First lay the paper out flat and weight it down. Then create a pattern with stamps or stencils on the paper. One thing that makes this so awesome, is you can personalize the wrapping paper to each person. Use their favorite colors, flowers or whatever you know they will love. This adds such a personal touch to each gift.

3. After you are complete with all your crafty deocorations, wrap up the gift.  Seriously it is that easy.  Then use some decorative ribbon or string to add a little extra flare to the gift.

4. Dress up plain bags with stencils or stamps. Something as simple as adding some washi tape to the bottom of packages or plain brown paper bags can really dress up a gift nicely. These little bags are perfect for some of  my cute gift ideas for the holidays. A Painted Sharpie Mug fits great inside these little bags. It is so simple and easy and doesn’t have to cost much at all.

I love that I always have wrapping paper handy now. Plus whenever I give gifts it is more personal. The person really treasures the paper and care that went into make their gift a special occasion. The more the better with this style of wrapping. All the little embellishments really add to the gift. A special tag with washi tape or even a little stamped tag adds a touch of sparkle to packages.

How do you personalize packages when you wrap gifts?
