Learn How to Make A Borax Crystal Christmas Ornament

January 10, 2013 Amy 19 Comments

Suppose you wanted to get started making your own homemade laundry detergent and needed a laundry booster for your recipe. I would recommend 20 Mule Team Borax for the best laundry booster ingredient. I used Borax when I made my own homemade laundry detergent in yesterdays post. Borax works as a great water softener to maximize cleaning power of laundry detergent. Add a 1/2 cup Borax to every load to soften water to help your detergents cleaning power.

Borax Laundry Booster

Borax is not just for laundry detergent. It is 100% natural mineral from the earth with no phosphates, chlorine or additive chemicals. Which also makes for some great home science experiments. Here is how we grew a Borax Crystal Ornament.

Borax Crystal Ornament

We made these cute snowflakes this year growing our own Borax Crystals.

1. Take two or three pipe cleaners and bend into a star or flower shape.

2. Take 1/3 Cup Borax and 1 1/2 Cups boiling water and mix.

3. Tie a string to the pipe cleaners and a pencil. Let set in mixture overnight or 24 hours.

4. You will have crystals growing on the pipe cleaners.

This craft is for display purposes only. Use caution if making around small children. Do not eat.

I use Borax for making my own laundry detergent.
It is also good for killing weeds in your lawn but won’t harm your grass.
