12 Tips for Using Dryer Sheets: Purex Fabric Softener Sheets

August 6, 2013 Amy 11 Comments

Here are some handy tips for using dryer sheets after they have come out of the dryer. I just love household tips for reusing items around the house. Some of these tips for using dryer sheets are ones I have used for many years and some are new to me. There is even a free dryer sheet uses printable to for you to hang in your laundry room in case you forget all the many tips for using dryer sheets.
12 Tips for using dryer sheets

12 Tips for Using Dryer Sheets

1. Drying clothes (Ok that is a given)
2. Cleaning the base boards- This is my favorite activity for a toddle who wants to help. Give them the dryer sheet and tell them to clean. They are already close to the ground anyway.
3. Dusting – Use a dryer sheet to dust the furniture. The dryer sheet is a magnet for dust.
4. Freshen up your closet or drawers – Using dryer sheets in the closet and drawers will make your clothes smell fresher.
5. Storing clothes – place one sheet in a tub before you pack away clothes for the winter to keep them smelling fresh and clean.
6. Soak burnt or cooked on Cookware – I am not sure about this tip for dryer sheets, since I have never tried it. Supposedly if you leave one in the sink with the dirty dish overnight, it will be easier to clean the next day.
7. Gym Bag – What gym bag couldn’t use a fresher scent
8. Sewing – Take a needle and thread and run them through a used dryer sheet to keep from getting tangled. Just put one in your sewing kit to keep handy.
9.  Crayon remover – Gets crayon off wood furniture. I have not tried this, but if you do please tell me how it works. Crayons, markers and stuff are under lock and key in this house!
10. Fire Starter – Use the lint and the dryer sheet and stuff them in a cardboard toilet paper tube and close up the ends for a great fire starter. A great idea to take this camping or for a fire pit. I am saving this and giving this a try soon.
11. Repel Gnats – Simply place a sheet in your pocket when you go outside and the Gnats will stay away. Read this study if you don’t believe me http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/12/101215102308.htm
12. Removes Water spots on Chrome – This takes a little elbow grease, but you can remove hard water spots on chrome with using dryer sheets.

My 2 year old loves to clean so I will give him used sheets and let him dust and clean whatever he can reach.

I put my sheet sets inside the matching pillow case after I wash them, to keep the set together easier, and I always stuff a dryer sheet in there, to keep them smelling fresh!

You can put the lint from your dryer into the cardboard egg cartons.
Then pour melted wax (from old candles) over the top of the lint.
Tear them apart as needed for a great fire starter. You use up the
lint as well as your old candles.

This is a really great tip. Fire starters are great for fire pits too!
