  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  1. Stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Using funnel pour the flour mix into 1 quart mason jar. Press down flour mixture until it won't pack any more. Seriously work on pressing it down. If needed, clean insides of jar with folded paper towel.
  2. Next press down oats tightly into the jar.
  3. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and brown sugar together. Spoon in brown sugar and cinnamon mixture pressing layer firmly in the jar.
  4. Then pour white sugar and press firmly into the jar. At this point I stop to admire the layers. They begin to look like the layers in the Earth. I love this part.
  5. Next add chocolate chips to the jar.
  6. Add decorations and print instructions to attach to the jar.
  7. Baking:
  8. Preheat oven to 350° F. Open up the jar and break up the mix so no lumps are remaining.
  9. Add an extra cup of nuts if you wish to the mix.
  10. In a mixer, beat together 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tablespoon milk. Add Cookie Mix and stir well.
  11. Drop tablespoon sized rounds of dough onto greased baking sheet. Bake about 9 - 11 minutes or until edges turn golden brown. Enjoy nice warm cookies.
