How To Make Homemade Cajun Seasoning Recipe

May 3, 2018 Amy 1 Comment

We eat a lot of Cajun Seasoning in our house, since my husband is from Louisiana.

Cajun seasoning goes on just about everything, including eggs.

Coming up with a homemade version of this recipe had to be proven from a real Louisianan.

My husband was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. So he knows what good Cajun seasoning should taste like. He adds it to just about everything he makes. Needless to say we tend to run out of it frequently. I wanted to see if I could make something comparable to his favorite style. I found a few recipes and kept tweaking them until I got just the right mix. And y’all this Texas girl knocked this one outta the park. There is just something that is amazing about homemade seasonings.

Is Creole seasoning the same as Cajun seasoning?

In doing research for this article, I wondering the difference between creole and Cajun seasoning. These terms are often used interchangeably. However, there is a difference. It turns out Cajun seasoning is basically salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and cayenne. Creole seasoning has more spices. So this is more of a Creole seasoning, but still amazingly good.

We like to add this to eggs, ribs and chicken. When I am cooking a whole chicken in the slow cooker, I like to sprinkle just a little on top to flavor the chicken and all the roasted veggies in the pot.

Adding a little Cajun seasoning mix to pulled pork sliders adds a little extra kick of flavor. I recommend this slow cooker, since it is large enough for a whole chicken or a large roast. You can make this easy shrimp and kale salad a little spicier with some Cajun seasoning recipe mix to the shrimp.

2 tablespoons paprika

1 tablespoon cayenne

Measure all the ingredients using the correct amounts mentioned above. I recommend these measuring spoons, since they have a couple of unique measurements.

Stir to mix together or place in a 8oz wide mouth mason jar like this one. I love to use the wide mouth ones for my seasonings to make them easy to get to. You can use these shaker lids if you plan on just sprinkling out your seasonings over food.
