First Published: December 1, 2016 Last Updated: November 6, 2020

This year is the perfect year to make and give gifts in a jar.

Then people can create home baked memories with soft warm cookies at home.

My heart warms a little when I look inside a pantry and see a row of mason jars filled with goodness. Why not give this wonderful gift to someone else?

I want to share my love of filled mason jars with others. This year I am making handmade gifts to give. Homemade oatmeal cookies in a jar is a wonderful gift to share. I love the thought of a mom and kids making homemade cookies and knowing I helped create this wonderful memory with my gift. I still remember making cookies with my mom and the best part is getting to lick the bowl and spoon, wouldn’t you agree?

(note: eating raw eggs and flour is not recommended)

Are oatmeal cookies a healthy snack?

If you are comparing oatmeal cookies to sugar cookies, then oatmeal cookies have a higher fiber content and contain additional minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium. These minerals are needed for overall physical health. Oatmeal cookies also have less calories than regular sugar cookies. So oatmeal cookies are a better choice, but not necessarily healthy, since they still contain a fair amount of sugar.

How long will oatmeal cookies last?

In the jar the cookies will last about a month before you need to bake them. Then after they are baked the will last 2 weeks in a sealed air tight container. But they are best straight out of the oven.

What is the secret to soft cookies?

This question gets asked a lot. One of the secrets to soft cookies is using brown sugar. The brown sugar makes the cookies gives you a moister cookie than a regular sugar cookie. Using an extra egg yolk will also give you a little more chewiness to your yummy cookies.
