Have you ever been embarrassed by something your child has said in front of a group of people? I know I have. I am not sure if this is a boy thing or I am just blessed with a child who talks a lot about gross body functions all the time. Yes, he tends to say the word “poop” a lot. There are a few other words he used to say too that I do not approve of him using. He does not always use the best manners for kids.
Good Manners for Kids Technique
I was able to review a book and a new technique to help curb those inappropriate words from coming out so freely from his four year old mouth. The book is Max’s Magnificent Choice is about a monkey who uses tacky words when he meets new animals to play with in the forest. The book comes with a wooden #TackyBox. This could not have come at a more opportune time in my house. We have tried everything to get him to stop walking around calling everything “poop.”
After reading the book Max’s Magnificent Choice with daddy, my wonderful husband immediately knew which word was going in the Tacky Box. They both wrote the word “poop” on the note pad provided and put it in the little box. Little Face was told he can no longer say that word, since it was locked away. We took some time to decorate the Tacky Box. I explained to him how it will be used going forward. We leave the Tacky Box out so he can see it as a small reminder of what is in there. Now the test to see how well this really will work. Will he learn better manners for kids?
Anytime he said the word during the past week, we would remind him he is not allowed to say it. This word was locked away in his Tacky Box and he can no longer use it. About a week later we were driving in the car, and Little Face said mom “You know that word I am not allowed to say because it is in my tacky box?” My first thought was “YEAH it worked!” He thought about his words before he said it. He made a good choice.
How to Help Kids Learn Good Manners
The Tacky Box has been a blessing in our home. It has taught my son to make better choices when using his words and has made our lives easier as well. I would highly recommend using this to help teach your child to help make better word choices. This really worked in my house and I am so excited and a bit relieved we have an easy solution to this problem. Visit the Tacky Box website if you would like to find out how to order one for yourself or as a gift. Like #TackyBox on Facebook for updates or tweet them how much you love your #TackyBox on Twitter.
