How do you set clear goals and achieve them?
Start off with a long term goal you want to accomplish. Like something you want done by the end of the year. Have a definite measure. Not I want to lose weight, more like I want to lose 10 pounds by December 31. Having a measurable goal will help you reach your dreams faster.
Seeing a large goal doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Break it up into smaller pieces you know you can accomplish. Once you have your large goal written down, break it down into three smaller goals you know you can achieve. Most importantly set deadlines for reaching those goals. Without deadlines a goal is just a dream.
Breaking it down into small manageable pieces will be easy once you see the big picture.
What Are The 3 Types of Goals?
Focus – Always start your plan at the beginning so you can focus. Plan your year at the beginning of the year, the month at the beginning of the month, the week at the beginning of the week, and the day at the beginning of the day. It is much easier to focus when you start at the beginning rather than picking up in the middle and feeling lost. I think this is my favorite advice.
Time Goals – This is where you set down a specific amount of time to accomplish your goals. Then you create your plan to accomplish your goals in that time frame.
Topic Based Goals – These are goals where you are trying to complete a course for a particular area of interest. Like you want to be a better photographer, so you take courses to help you achieve your goal.
How do I write down my goals?
I find once I have written down my goal I need to make sure I accomplish it. There is something concrete in writing down your goals and to do lists everyday. Plus it feels really good to cross things off your to do list. You are really working towards a goal and you have proof you can see, since you wrote it down.
Make time to plan. I know this sounds silly, but you need to plan to plan. Set aside a certain amount of time each day to plan your day, week or month.
Time blocking is a method where you can set a certain amount of time and only focus and work on that assignment. This will allow you to have better focus to accomplish your goals and tasks for the day. I like to time block time to write and time to research for different articles. Then I can devote that time to productive work on getting the job done.
Why Setting Goals is Important
What are your top three items to do everyday to achieve those goals? Set a deadline. Having a time frame will help you focus on when the goal needs to happen.
What if you are not meeting your goals on time? Don’t worry you can always readjust.
Reevaluate is key to success
Are you hitting your goals quicker than expected? Is it taking you longer to get where you wanted to be? Maybe it is time to reevaluate your goals.
One of the most overlooked processes is reevaluating your goals. Go through and see what worked, what didn’t. How can you replicate what works in other goals you may have. Take a look at what didn’t work. Why didn’t it work? Can you change or add one thing to make it better?
Once you take some time to readjust, then you know where you need to be headed. I do this at the end of the month before I set my goals for the next month. This gives me a clear picture where I need to focus more time and energy. Then start the process all over again.

Now I have a special worksheet I have made just for you. This is an easy goal setting worksheet you can download and print on your own to go through the steps in achieving your dreams. After all your dreams are only dreams until you write them down, then they become your goals.
Most of the time I think I have all these things to do. It is not until I write it down and come up with a plan can I not only get it done, but usually I have extra time to do more. Because I am focused on crossing things off my to do list. There are a lot of things that can waste your time (Facebook), but goals motivate you and inspire you to be a better person. You make an action plan to get where you want to go and then follow it.
